Over a Century of Service
First organized on June 21, 1889, the City of Centralia Fire Department is a proud and historic
group of professional fire fighters. Local 451 was granted a charter by the International
Association of Fire Fighters on October 24, 1935 and became a member of the Washington State
Council of Fire Fighters in 1939. Local 451 currently has 31 members and is the largest IAFF local
in Lewis County.
Our membership consists of career fire fighters that are employed by the Riverside Fire Authority
in Centralia, Washington and Lewis County Fire Protection District #6 in Chehalis, Washington.
Our Mission
The mission of Centralia Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 451, is to
support our members so that they may provide the highest
quality fire, rescue and emergency medical service to they
serve. To accomplish this mission, we are committed to:

Advocating for personnel, training, equipment, apparatus,
infrastructure and other resources necessary to enhance
public safety.

Pursuing competitive wages, hours, and other conditions
of work so that we may recruit and retain a talented and
diverse workforce.
•
Protecting the welfare of our members through
educational, charitable, political, legislative, social and
other community involvement.
•
Respecting the rights of our members, employer and the
public in order to promote harmony within the
organizations that our members serve.
The IAFF represents more than 316,000 full-time professional
fire fighters and paramedics in more than 3,400 affiliates. IAFF
members protect more than 85 percent of the population in
communities throughout the United States and Canada.
